Natural Remedies for Eczema Print E-mail

Eczema is the general name for a number of chronic skin conditions that affect both children and adults. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema and it mainly occurs among infants and small children appearing before the age of five. As extra care must be taken when giving children medication of any kind, many parents seek out natural remedies for eczema, as do adults who continue to suffer from the disease even after they have left childhood  behind. Here are a few:

Herbs and Vitamins as Natural Remedies for Eczema – There are a number of herbal remedies and potions that effectively relieve the pain and itching associated with eczema and provide a good measure of relief during an outbreak. One of the most popular is the application of a mixture of sandalwood and camphor applied to the skin as a paste. Topically applied Vitamin E has also been shown to provide eczema relief and reduce the appearance of any residual scarring.

Another popular natural remedy for eczema is zinc, both taken orally and applied to the affected areas of skin. Shark Cartilage and a blueberry leaf paste can significantly reduce the inflammation associated with eczema as well.

Diet as a Natural Remedy for Eczema Relief – Food does not cause eczema, but certain foods can make it worse. Many people say that drinking a daily glass of pure tomato juice is a wonderful cure for eczema outbreaks and most people agree that avoiding too many dairy products can help keep severe eczema symptoms at bay as well. Citrus fruits have also been linked to eczema outbreaks.

Homemade Herbal Soap as a Natural Remedy for Eczema – For everyday washing (very important for those who suffer from eczema) try this homemade herbal soap to keep severe outbreaks at bay: Grate a large bar of olive or vegetable soap and add some finely chopped mint leaves or a pinch or two of turmeric powder as well as a few drops of a favorite essential oil.

Heat the mixture until it is mixed and melted. Pour into a soap mold or an egg box lined with wax paper and allow to set for 12-24 hours.
