Acne is the scourge of the younger generation but also a problem for many people for their entire lives. Countless millions of dollars are spent every year by acne sufferers on all kinds of pills, potions, and liquids, many of them laden with chemicals, to try to combat the problem effectively. However, there are a number of natural remedies for acne that work very well, cost a fraction of what the “medicinal” solutions do, and are less harmful to the body overall.
Acne is a very common skin disorder, occurring as a result of inflammations in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. It manifests itself in many different forms from blackheads to the far more disfiguring cystic acne. Whatever form it takes, acne is a nightmare for many. What natural remedies are there for acne though? Here are a few:
Vitamins as a Natural Cure for Acne – Both Vitamin A and Niacin have been shown to be quite effective in combating acne. An anti-acne regime recommended by many naturopaths consists of 100mg of Niacin taken three times a day, together with a similar dose of Vitamin A and one dose of vitamin E per day. Some stores sell special “acne vitamin“ kits, but the usual kind sold at your local health food store works just fine.
Garlic as a Natural Remedy for Acne – A slightly smelly, but effective, way to combat stubborn acne. Not only should raw garlic be applied to the affected areas of skin several times a day, a garlic supplement is also recommended to help speed the effectiveness of this natural cure for acne.
Coriander and Mint Juice as a Natural Remedy for Acne – A teaspoon of either coriander or mint juice, combined with a small pinch of turmeric, makes an effective face wash that is especially effective against black and white heads. For even greater effect many recommend leaving the mixture on the face overnight after thoroughly cleansing it before retiring.
Cucumber as a Natural Cure for Acne – You may be used to hearing that a cucumber slice placed over each eye relieves puffiness, but cucumber is also useful in the battle against all forms of acne. Grate a fresh cucumber and apply it – mask like – for fifteen to twenty minutes every other day.
Apple Cider Vinegar as a Natural Remedy for Acne – Apple Cider Vinegar is a potent natural acne remedy, especially since it has quite potent natural antibiotic properties. Many people feel it works best if you can stomach a “straight shot” of the real thing a couple of times a day but for those who just cannot face that thought, apple cider vinegar capsules work as well. Acne Diets – There is still a lot of controversy over whether or not things like chocolate and soda really do worsen acne, but since neither is very good for you avoiding them cannot do anything but good anyway. One thing most people do agree on is that a diet rich in fruit and veggies helps, as does drinking at least eight glasses of pure water on a daily basis.
